That online presence…

I’m back from the ASI 2017 conference–as usual filled with inspiration. I’ve had my duvet day for recuperation from the horrendously early flight that I took from Portland ME to RDU. It was a good conference, I learned a lot, and I had a chance to visit with indexers face-to-face over breakfast, dinner, or just…

My cat needs me…

I love indexing. I love working free-lance but as with even the best things, there are some “downside” things. One is that freelance indexing can be rather solitary. I appreciate Facebook as it allows me to keep in contact with other indexers in between conferences but nothing compares to meeting the “names and pictures” face…

…and another food spot in Charleston

I’ve had another recommendation for a place to have seafood while in Charleston:  Hyman’s Seafood. Great looking menu and not expensive.  This recommendation comes from a good friend who does know how picky I can be about the quality of my food–especially my seafood.  Menu looks interesting, and there is a specific gluten-free menu posted…

Food in Charleston SC

I’m excited about the American Society for Indexing convention–it’s good to get to talk face-to-face with other indexers–there’s always something to learn. I’m excited to see the other who worked on the Best Practices document again–and I’m looking forward to visiting Charleston SC.  I’ve never been there so I’m planning to stay until Sunday morning…

It’s almost conference time again!

It really doesn’t seem that long ago that I was getting excited about the 2013 ASI conference–and here it is again–conference time.  I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again. I appreciate! Facebook, Linked In, and Twitter for staying in contact, but nothing beats getting together face-to-face! I’ve not been to Charleston SC before so…

ASI Conference in San Antonio, Texas

It’s been a good trip to Texas–once I escaped from Denver and finally got here. Talk about time travel!  Wednesday was a pretty strange day:  leave Durham NC (Eastern time zone) in pleasant spring weather; arrive Denver CO in 28 degrees Fahrenheit, snow, freezing rain–all on Mountain time.  A cancelled flight, and several delays to…

A passing mention….

I’ve just given a huge sigh of relief, hit the send button on the e-mail with the attachments, and had an acute attack of nervousness–is there an error in there somewhere, did I miss something, is there…? It’s been a long, but interesting, project.  I’ve prepared the index for a commemorative edition of The Polar…

ASI conference coming up!

It’s not April yet, but I’m starting to anticipate the annual ASI conference in San Antonio.  I couldn’t attend last year and I really missed it.  Since indexing can be solitary even with, online groups, email, listserv, and the like,  it’s always great to go hear indexing spoken spontaneously. So many good reasons to go…

Index Appreciation Day 2011

For several of us the first Index Appreciation day was  celebrated by meeting for lunch near Index, Virginia, actually in King George.  Gathering for this occasion were Connie Binder, Becky Horynak, Kay Pederson, Kara Pekar, and me.  We visited and had lunch. After lunch we made a “pilgrimage” to the Index, Virginia, sign. (Fortunately one…
